If a pregnancy test shows a clear negative result, how can it sometimes be wrong?

also, can cheap condoms and cheap pregnancy tests fail?are they more likely to if they are inexpensive? If a pregnancy test shows a clear negative result, how can it sometimes be wrong?
Urine tests just sometimes aren't very good at detecting hormone levels. Some people carry babies to term and never get a positive on a HPT. Blood tests, however, are extremely accurate.

From what I've heard, it doesn't matter how cheap the condoms or HPTs are. They're all made the same.If a pregnancy test shows a clear negative result, how can it sometimes be wrong?
False negative pregnancy tests and what causes them

If you take a home pregnancy test too early, you may get a false negative result. A false negative result is when the test says you are not pregnant but you are. This can be misleading and when using home pregnancy tests you must be very careful of avoiding any factors that may cause false results.

There could be various reasons for a false negative test.

Early Detection Attempt

One reason for a false negative pregnancy test could be that you took the test too early. Pregnancy tests vary in their sensitivity which means how soon they can detect the hormone Human Chorionic Gonadotropin (hCG) in your urine. It is possible that although your ovum might be fertilized, meaning you may be pregnant, but your body has not started secreting enough Human Chorionic Gonadotropin (hCG) for the test to measure. Your body needs time for the hormone to rise to a high enough level to be detected in a test.

Erratic Technique

There is a possibility that while using the home pregnancy test strip you either did not dip it well or did not hold it well in your urine stream. This error in technique may give false negative results.

Missed Reaction Time

For accuracy in home pregnancy tests it is essential that you read the test results in the stipulated reaction time. If you let the test sit for too long (after the instructions on the box tell you), the test is invalid. This may cause it to show false negative results.

If the home pregnancy test shows negative results but you still think you could be pregnant, wait a few days and try again. A negative result can mean that you are not pregnant, you took the test too early or you took the test wrong. Also, if you have received different answers on multiple pregnancy tests, it is recommended that you get a blood test done to get an accurate answer.
I dunno about condoms, but I do know some cheap pregnancy tests are better than expensive ones. I ordered some online for $0.30 each and they detected pregnancy accurately 4 days before missed period. It just depends on the sensitivity of the test, which may be advertised on the box or you may have to call the manufacturer to find out. The lower the sensitivity, the more accurate. I've heard dollar store hpts are just fine. They can be wrong though if they're done too early and there is not enough hormone for them to detect. Also, some women just don't make enough hormone to be detected even when they're not done early.
I'm a cheap person. But when it comes to condoms and Tests I DON'T go cheap, but I don't get the most exspensive either...

If you test BEFORE your missed period, the protein in your urine may not be elevated enough to get a positive result. You may have to wait up to a week after a missed period to get a true result!

A week after should be good, but if you are still unsure then go to your doc to check it out...better safe than sorry!
Any at home pregnancy test can come up as a false negative. I don't know how the cheap tests, but cheap condoms can fail. I always get the first response or EPT pregnancy tests.
if you didnt read the direction correctly or did it wrong
Using someone elses pee on the test. Taking the test too early before you become pregnant.

No such things as cheap condoms... They would not be on the market if they only worked 10% of the time.

Pregnancy tests yes, you get what you pay for. Go to a doctor and get one, they are usually free.
You can get a negative result if you take the test too early. It takes time for the pregnancy hormone levels to raise enough to be detected on a pregnancy test. If you take the test too soon and your hormone levels haven't risen enough yet, the test will give a negative result.
You can get a false negative if you are testing too early and there is not enough HCG in your urine.

Best bet is to wait a little bit longer and test - also try to use FMU
It can be wrong because you may not have enough of the hormone HcG present in your urine yet. To increase accuracy, don't test till your period is due and always use first morning urine. The cheap pregnancy tests really aren't more likely to be incorrect, some women swear by them. I tested positive with an internet cheapie the day before my period was due. However, I wouldn't trust my luck with cheap condoms. That's one thing that you should stick with the name brand! Most clinics/health departments offer the name brand for free or very inexpensive rates, so if money is an issue there's another option. Otherwise, if you are going to use the cheap brand, keep them away from heat, glove boxes, wallets and makes sure the expiration date is good. Good luck!
